This is Ryan Russon's Weblog. RyBlog 5000 is your one-stop source for all things Ryan and/or Russon (you paying attention Google?): personal details, political rants, tin-foil hat conspiracy theories, vacation photos, dumb ASP.NET ideas, Ryan's latest time-wasters, whimsical thoughts, pathetic attempts at humor, and anything else I can think to add. Eventually I'll have my music, MP3s, video, my "Study Tips from the Master Slacker", top ten lists, Christmas wish list, my psychology thesis, unauthorized copyrighted materials, and much much more!!! This is also where I'm hiding my Weapons of Mass Destruction-Related Program Activites Intent. I think McGyver had one of those too. It was a chewing gum wrapper or something that he fashioned into a detonator.
RyBlog 5000 - Blog of Mass Destruction Related Program Activities Intent (you gotta believe)
Fun Family Fascism for Everyone! You gotta see this...  I was surfing around looking at other blogs today and thought I'd see what the conservative crowd was up to. Saw the title of this blog and nearly fell off my chair laughing: The Conservative Zone: Thoughts from a Conservative living with mental illness.

Great subtitle, but really superfluous, isn't it?

Considering the absurdities spewed by Bush supporters on a daily basis, one can only conclude that the two conditions are inseparable.  A personal favorite [always good for a laugh] is the idea that "terrorists hate freedom."  Hearing W. repeat such stupidity reminds me of Steve Martin's performance in "The Jerk" as he dodges shots from a crazed sniper toting some serious semi-automatic gear.  The sniper misses Martin several times, hitting oil cans stacked in the gas station where Martin is working as an attendant.  Ducking for cover, Martin exclaims "He HATES these CANS!!!" [warning 11MB, slow server]

Another classic example I ran across today: Rush Limbaugh, master pathological liar, claimed on May 4th that the sexual torture of Iraqis was like good spirited hazing --just some folks in uniform "having a good time."

Hey Rush, buddy!  Me and some friends want to induct you into a fun, super-special club!  Come over this Saturday night and bring a broomstick, a Polaroid, and a hood.  And leave the Oxycontin at home, unless you've got enough for everybody!

And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...

I found this shocking new photo of the atrocities at Abu Ghraib prison [while playing with Photoshop on my lunch hour].

I'm the Mark from the Conservative Zone.

    You know,

A socialist from England made a similar pithy comment a while back, but he was better at it.

My Conservatism has nothing to do with my mental illness. Of course, in your twisted mind they mean the same thing.

My mental illness is like being in recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction. It is something that I must be aware of and watch out for every day. Except if I fall off the wagon I don't get drunk or shoot up, I blow my brains out. Then again, in your twisted view of things that would probably be a good thing.

I hope you never have a family member develop a case of paranoid schitzophrenia, or fast cycling bipolar. My illness has cost me my job, my family, my home and almost my life on several occasions.

You, in your little fantasy world, could not comprehend the mountains I must climb every day just to make it out of bed in the morning.

I hope you never have to find out either. That's the difference between me and you.

    Hi Mark,

Apologies for the lefty attempt at humor at your expense. I certain did not mean to poke fun at the terrible burden that mental illness represents. Having trained briefly to become a psychotherapist, I know how tough it can be just to get from one day to the next. I would be glad to remove the linkage from my site, if you wish.

Nonetheless, the world view of conservatives --at least those to the far right currently supporting our neo-conservative administration-- strikes me as being seriously out of step with reality. I just can't believe that even those who benefit most from President Bush's policies (e.g. the wealthy and large corporations) can seriously believe these policies are helpful to the majority of the population. As for the less extreme, historical Republican party, I think their hearts are in the right place, although I still disagree with their methods.

Apologies again for any offense and best wishes.

I wonder, Mark, how it is that you can be a conservative. As a sufferer of Mental Illness, surely you are aware that it was Ronald Reagan who eliminated Community Mental Health Care facilities. The medicine that I am sure you must have to take to try to keep your illness in check is expensive, and with the Pro-Big Pharmaceutical standpoint by most conservatives (And if not by you, than at least by the president you support), it only stands to get more expensive. More expensive, I might add, than most people with serious mental illness can afford.
And to what result? A growing population of homeless, most with fast-cycling bipolar or schizophrenia, that Republicans don't want to pay for. Seems like a paradox to me.
P.S. I'm not a Democrat. I'm a Libertarian, so if you slam into the Democrats I will probably agree with you.

P.S. I saw your website, Mark. Stop being afraid of Terrorists all the time, for chrissakes. There's no such thing as perfect safety, and there never will be. There will never be a time when everyone says "Oh..We all love the U.S. They are wonderful".
So get over it. Life doesn't last forever and shouldn't. How much of your liberty are you willing to give up in order to have the illusion of safety?

This just showed up in my refer logs again and I see more people wrote. Just for the record I would like to respond.

I get all of my medication free because of my economic level. All of my health care is free.

You can be a Conservative and not agree with every action of those you support. I'm quite sure that not every Democrat agreed with everything Clinton did.

I did not like how Reagan turned the lower functioning mentally ill out, but I didn't have a say in the matter.

I am not afraid of terrorists, I just want you to keep your eyes and ears up, you may be the one to stop a terrorist attack.

And I am unwilling to give up Liberty for safety, which is why I have been consistently against the PATRIOT act.

    Thanks for all the comments.
